The film was Directed and Written by Mark Steven Johnson, and starred Nicolas Cage, Eva Mendes, Wes Bentley.
Based on a Marvel Comic, the storyline is based on motorcyclist Johnny Blaze, who, when he finds out that his father Barton Blaze has a terminal cancer, accepts a pact with the Mephistopheles, giving his soul for the health of his beloved father. The devil deceives him, and Barton dies in a motorcycle accident during an exhibition. Johnny leaves the carnival, his town, his friends and his girlfriend Roxanne. Years later Johnny Blaze becomes a famous motorcyclist, who risks his life in his shows, and he meets Roxanne again, now a TV reporter. Mephistopheles offers to release Johnny's soul if Johnny becomes the fabled, fiery ‘Ghost Rider', a supernatural agent of vengeance and justice, and defeat Blackheart - Mephistopheles' nemesis and evil son, who wants to possess one thousand evil souls and transform hell on earth.

Scenes of the $100 million US Hollywood movie starring Nicolas Cage were shot in the Geelong region. The movie, called Ghost Rider is an action thriller based on a Marvel Comics character who avenges injustice and rides a motorcycle engulfed in flames.
Film Geelong secured several location shoots of the production including a motorcycle stunt scene filmed near Anakie.
Co-starring Eva Mendes and Wes Bentley, Ghost Rider will be Columbia Pictures' major summer release for 2006.
One shoot in the Geelong region saw the introduction of cactus plants, a welcome to Texas sign and other props as seen in the following images.
