ABC Television's 'Corelli' series, a gritty TV prison drama, extensively used the Old Geelong Gaol as a key location.
The series was based on the exploits of Kevin Jones, an angry, sexy prisoner set on seducing his female prison counsellor, Louisa Correlli. Over the course of series (10 episodes), Kevin was a charismatic powder keg, initially maintaining an elaborate scam (pretending to suffer brain damage due to a head injury) in order to keep himself from being returned to a maximum security lockup. After his rouse is discovered, Kevin forms a tenuous bond with his young cellmate as well as a healthy fondness, a dangerously mutual one, for psychologist Louisa Correlli.
The series was created by Carol Long and Denise Roberts and starred High Jackman, Deborra-Lee Furness, Sue Jones and Richard Piper.
